Alexanderplatz and TV Tower. It is the most famous squares of Berlin which houses the Fernsehturm (TV tower) with 368 meters high. You can see this tower from almost anywhere in the city.
Brandenburg Gate. It is one of the best known landmarks of Berlin. During the period when Berlin was a divided city, the Brandenburg Gate was isolated and belonged to none of the Germanys. It was reopened on December 22, 1989, after the fall of the Wall. It is a sandstone building dating to 1791 and is supported by 12 Doric columns. It now serves as the centerpiece of the Pariser Platz.
East Side Gallery. This open air art gallery features works of graffiti art. The famous one is the passionate kiss of the presidents of Russia and the German Democratic Republic.
Holocaust Memorial. The monument consists of 2,711 large rectangular stones. It is a tribute to the Jews who died as a result of the “Final Solution” of Hitler. Under rocks, there is a moving museum that focuses on the lives of Jewish families during the Nazi domination.
Checkpoint Charlie. It is the best-known Berlin Wall crossing point. The Haus am Checkpoint Charlie museum has exhibits on the history of the Berlin Wall as well as the people who tried to escape to the West.
Potsdamer Platz. In the 1920s, Potsdamer Platz was the busiest square in Europe. It was destroyed in World War II and divided by the Berlin Wall. After the reunification of Germany it became the largest construction site in Europe. It became the masterpiece of the new Berlin, a modern architecture that includes offices, hotels, cinemas, shopping centers and the huge Sony Center.
Reichstag. It houses the seat of the German Parliament, one of the landmarks of the city. It now has a new dome. It has a rich background that reflects the history of Germany from the nineteenth century.
Deutsches Historisches Museum. The German Historical Museum includes prehistory to the present day. There are lots of exhibitions and each one takes at least two to three hours to visit.
Grunewald. If you’re looking for a place to escape the city, this is a perfect place. However, you need to check the weather first. You can do lot of different activities including hiking, horseback riding, picnicking, or biking. There are also guided tours available.
Deutsche Kinemathek . More commonly known as the Museum of Cinema, this is one of the most interesting museums in Berlin. Every June, the Jewish Film Festival Berlin takes place here. During the rest of the year, there are exhibits showing the history of German cinema as well as German actors and actresses. There’s even a section devoted to the films of Nazi propaganda.
Tempelhofer Park. This park is located in the southern part of the city. It is actually the site of the old airport that was used during the Berlin Airlift (when the Soviets tried to block the city). Now it is a great park with lots of plates and information about the old airport. It is not only the best park in Berlin, but also a good place to walk around a historical place.
