Who has been to Berlin? Surely many of you, but who has not tried the famous Currywurst yet?
The Berlin cuisine has been influenced by different cultures and religions that have been passed by it. In the modern era, Berlin became famous. On September 4, 1949, the Currywurst was found in one of the Berlin‘s streets. Nowadays it is the most popular sausage of the city.
The recipe was the work of Herta Heuwer working in his stand on the corner of the Kaiser-Friedrich-Straße in Berlin’s Charlottenburg district. Herta was frying sausages with ketchup, curry powder and Worcestershire sauce and other condiments. In 1959, the cook registered this sauce as a brand and called it Chillup. This was the best garnish, along with the chips for the Brühwurst or Bratwurst. And this way the Currywurst was born.
He was very successful in the 80s in competition with popular döner and different burger shops. The Currywurst is part of take away food in the street stalls.
