Come on!! ! Yes, friends. Berlin has beach. They are not the type of beaches that we are used to see. Instead of slippery sand, they are characterized by having a floor with grass and very small stones. Its water is not salty; on the contrary, it is fresh water as these beaches are next to lakes going through Berlin.
Do not get disappointed! That is true that they are not the beaches that you expect to see, but they are the big attraction of Berlin when summer begins. This city can reach 300 in August. So it’s not surprising that these beaches are a success for Berliners and tourists who visit the city.
Where can we find them?
The most important beach is Wannse. It was opened in 1907 as a “place of family bathing “. It offers more than 1,200 feet of sand beach, beach lounge chairs, water slides and large surfaces to lie on the beach or in the park … here there is a variety of offers for everyone.
There are several areas of Berlin that are destined to the beaches. One of the best known is Capital Beach, near the central station and the central district of the city. It lies on the bank of Spree River. You can rent chairs, or walk on boats or if you prefer, relax with a refreshing cocktail.
Along the Spree, you can find several beaches. Behind what remains of the famous Berlin Wall is another similar area. Here we find the Yaam (Young and African Arts Market) a key element for Berlin culture. A nice place both for relaxing and enjoying various activities near the river.
Finally we would like to introduce you the Rummelsburg, which is a fine white sandy beach with palm trees reminding us of the Caribbean. The attraction of this place is the option to have a barbecue; you can rent all you need to enjoy a nice picnic.
These have been an example of the different beaches you can find in Berlin. If your destination is Berlin this summer, do not forget to visit them!
